An unfortunate never ending saga "Bhopal Gas tragedy:"

Here i am back again with something i feel to write about.since i am studing in a engineering college of bhopal
so i felt that i should write about this tragedy.
It was the unfortunate night of december3,1984 when the biggest disaster in the industrial history of india took place.Its impact can be judged from the fact that although 26 years had passed but the effects and the terror still exists in the victims.Here is the chronological order of the whole events that have took place till now showing incapability of government to punish the accussers as well as the pain of tha victims..

December 3, 1984: Toxic methyl isocyanate gas releases from Union Carbide India Ltd’s (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal killing about 15,000 people and injuring at least five lakh others. Millions were left sick and the affected passed on the harmful effects of the gas to the next generations.

December 4, 1984: Warren Anderson, the chairman of Union Carbide, is among nine people arrested. But he was freed on bail of $ 2,000, upon a promise to return. Union Carbide is named as the 10th accused in a criminal case charged with culpable homicide.

February, 1985: Indian government files claim for $ 3.3 billion from Union Carbide in a US court.

1986: US District Court judge transfers all Bhopal litigation to India.

December 1987: CBI files chargesheet against Warren Anderson and other accused, including UCC (USA), Union Carbide (Eastern) Hong Kong, and UCIL. Summons served on Anderson and UCC on charges of culpable homicide.

February 1989: CJM, Bhopal, issues non-bailable warrant of arrest against Warren Anderson for repeatedly ignoring summons.

February 1989: Indian government and Union Carbide strike an out-of-court deal and compensation of $ 470 million is given by Union Carbide.

February - March 1989: Public protest against the unjust settlement followed by filing of a number of review and writ petitions against the settlement in the Supreme Court by the Bhopal Gas Peedith Mahila Udyog Sangatan (BGPMUS), the Bhopal Gas Peedith Sangarsh Sahayog Samiti (BGPSSS) and other concerned groups.

1992: Part of $ 470 million is disbursed by the government among Bhopal gas victims.

February 1992: Anderson declared fugitive by law for ignoring court summons.

November 1994: Despite numerous petitions by survivors’ groups, the Supreme Court allows Union Carbide to sell stake in UCIL to McLeod Russell (India) Ltd of Calcutta.

September 1996: Supreme Court dilutes charges against Indian officials of Union Carbide India Limited -subsidiary, majority owned by Union Carbide Corporation [UCC] - partly on grounds that culpability lies with UCC.

August 1999: Union Carbide announces merger with US-based Dow Chemicals.

November 1999: International environment watchdog Greenpeace tests soil, groundwater and wells in and around the derelict Union Carbide factory and finds 12 volatile organic chemicals and mercury in quantities up to six million times higher than expected.

November 1999: Several victims and survivors’ organisations file an action suit against Union Carbide and its former CEO, Warren Anderson, in federal court of New York, charging Carbide with violating international human rights law, environmental law, and international criminal law.

February 2001: Union Carbide refuses to take responsibility for UCIL’s liabilities in India.

January 2002: A study by Srishti and Toxics Links finds lead and mercury in breast milk of nursing mothers in communities near the plant.

June 2002: Bhopal gas tragedy survivors launch a protest in New Delhi when they hear the Indian government plans to drop charges against Anderson.

August 2002: Charges of culpable homicide are maintained against Anderson by Indian court, which demands his extradition to stand trial. Meanwhile, a British newspaper reports that Anderson is in New York after US authorities say they are unable to locate him.

October 2002: Protests to clean up former UCIL factory site in Bhopal that activists say contains thousands of tonnes of toxic waste.

May 2003: The Indian government formally conveys its request for extradition of Anderson to the US.

March 2004: A US court says it could order Dow Chemicals to clean soil and ground water in the abandoned factory site if the Indian government provides a no objection certificate. The Indian government forwards the certificate to the United States.

June 2004: The US rejects India’s request for extradition of Anderson saying the request does not “meet requirements of certain provisions” of the bilateral extradition treaty.

July 19, 2004: India’s Supreme Court orders the Central Bank to pay out more than 15 billion rupees, part of the original $ 470 million received as compensation kept in the account since 1992.

October 25, 2004: Bhopal gas victims protest the failure of the government to pay victim’s compensation.

October 26, 2004: India’s Supreme Court sets deadline of November 15 to pay out the rest of $ 470 million paid by Union Carbide as compensation.

June 7, 2010: All eight accused, including the then Chairman of Union Carbide Keshub Mahindra, in the Bhopal Gas disaster case convicted by a court

but still after all this drama if you go to people who were actually effected by this remains low because they are fed up with the never ending fairy tale of governments promises.Hope they get what they should and accussers too..

I was having a look at the newspaper as usual but there was something unusual about it and that was the whole page was covered under a single headline "AFGAN WAR EXPOSED".Was it really or for few it was new? god knows...
There was detailing about how the reputed USA shows their power and ruthless political skills and how nobody din't even squawked.I guess if it was that big news,actually it was,why ain't indian government showed any response,though always boasting of its foreign policies.i guess because by doing so they would stand against their godfather(pardon me but that's kind of true).let me give you a brief detailing about the news due to which i certainly started believing my above statement..

The New York Times, the Guardian, and Der Spiegel collaborated in analysing and placing substantial amounts of the information on the Internet, though they have withheld details that are likely to heighten the danger to U.S. troops and their partners. The White House, however, says the leaks might put American lives and those of partners at risk and could threaten national security. The U.K. expresses similar concerns. The documents show that intelligence is unreliable and often unverifiable; that ISAF communications frequently break down; that there are technical problems with equipment, including drone aircraft; and that troops are so frightened of suicide bombers and Taliban collaborators that they have killed hundreds of civilians by shooting and bombing indiscriminately. Furthermore, large numbers of ordinary Afghans fear and hate the foreign troops and are victims of the corruption and brutality that pervade the U.S-backed Hamid Karzai government. Taliban forces, for their part, are increasingly well-trained and adept, and their roadside bombs have killed over 2,000 civilians.

The WikiLeaks exposé has been likened to the 1971 leak of the Pentagon Papers, the contents of which significantly strengthened worldwide opposition to the Vietnam war, and also to the publication of pictures of U.S. torture at Abu Ghraib in Iraq. It turns out that the CIA has its own secret operation to kill suspected Taliban leaders, that incident reports conceal civilian deaths and other failures, and that the U.S. military has covered up the Taliban's acquisition of heat-seeking missiles. Politically speaking, there is deepening international concern that the ISAF presence is not doing anything other than wrecking Afghanistan and strengthening the Taliban. The U.S., in particular, has persistently underestimated the weakness and incompetence of the Afghan government. Therefore, prosecuting anyone found responsible for the leak amounts to nothing more than shooting the messenger. That will address neither the chaos in Afghanistan nor the fact that a war effort that has already cost over $300 billion is totally directionless. The very concept of a victory, military or political, is now completely unintelligible and the official lies about Afghanistan can no longer be sustained.
This was the overview of the news but its not only about afganistan,what in case of pakistan,iraq... (and the list goes on)
Why every government is keeping their mouth shut and galloping the saliva of slavery or fear whatever it is...

INCEPTION OF PAKISTAN JINNAH’S ERR??

Division of our beloved mother India is the sadest saga of indian history.”india is inseperable “this was said by the Britishers who came here and resided for about 300 years.Then what lead to formation of pakistan?

Lets try to find it out………

“Pakistan would not have been born,if pandit jawah lal nehru and Mahatama gandhii didn’t have shown supportive attitude.”

These lines signifies the darkest parts of the division of India and since we,Indians,don’t want to scratch old wounds that’s why modern education system does not include details of this era And whenever someone comes forth with their views on this issue,they are more than often suppressed.as was seen in the case of jaswant singh….

From the Indian history …

In 1909,a big debate started that Hindus are going to be disappeared,(According to a census the growth rate of muslims was far better than that of Hindus) and after knowing this fact, the Hindu leaders made certain statements that were almost antimuslim in a sense and Muslims equivocated This all created a havoc which might as well have been the beginning of the anti Muslim feeling in the country.This all lead to formation of National Muslim League as a separate communal party. Here arises Muhammad Ali Jinnah, also known as “Quaid-e-Azam” in the history of India, as a leader of Muslim league.In the begging Jinnah was a great supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity, so, he joined All India National Congress. In 1913 Jinnah joined Muslim League and took an active part to make it effective. It was through his efforts that Muslim League and Congress Party agreed to a political settlement in 1916. This agreement is known as “Lucknow Pact”. According to this pact, Congress for the first time recognized a separate position of the Muslims and accepted the Muslim’s demand for a separate electorate. As the time passes and Jinnah realized that Congress is only for Hindus and only protecting Hindu’s rights, Jinnah left Congress and devoted all his energies for the welfare of Muslims of Indian Sub-Continent. By 1940,jinnah almost beleived that Hindus and Muslims are two seperate communities which can’t live togeather and from here the horizon of partition begins.From this the idelogy of Jinnah it can be judged and this can also be guessed that he himself doesn’t wanted a different nation but the circumstances lead him to think so…..

Jawahar lal Nehru put forward a report,showing that there are no discrepencies between hindu and muslims and the both can live togeather happily.But jinnah realised that this was a political report not the actual one .so he mput forward a report giving details about the present scenerio of the india. In his report, he insisted that there is only one majority in the India i.e. Hindus (although Congress agreed in Lucknow Pact that Muslims are a separate nation). jinnah put forward his fourteen points in 1929, in which it is clearly said that there are two big religions in the India i.e. Muslims and Hindus not one as it was claimed in Nehru report. Jinnah fourteen points also includes demands for some constitutional reforms. From this it can be concluded that Jinnah was very anxious about the future of Muslims of India.He wished that the Muslims should emerge as an effective force.This concern of jinnah made him one of the favourates of muslims at that time. Muslim League suffered from few internal problems. In 1934, Jinnah took over control of theMuslim League and made it strong and organized party within few years. In 1940, at the 27th annual session of the Muslim League, held in Lahore, Jinnah with other Muslim leaders analyzed the political problems of Muslims in great deal. A resolution was passed unanimously which is known as Lahore Resolution. In this resolution it was demanded that Muslims of the Indian Sub-Continent should have a separate homeland comprising the regions of the Sub-Continent having a Muslim majority. After the Lahore Resolution passed on 23rd March, 19940, the Muslim League entered into a new phase and under the presidency of Jinnah soon become a popular party. Jinnah put his best to made Muslim League a true representative party of Muslims. The results were obvious in 1945-46 elections, when Muslim League enjoyed a landslide victory both in central assembly as well as in provincial assembly elections. The Muslims continued their organized efforts under the guidelines provided to them by Jinnah.Here a mystery is still unanswered that why the indian leaders din’t took any step to stop this unwanted spread of mental insecurities among the residents of India,although at that time any body as intellect as Mahatama gandhi and Nehru would have forseeken this division of India.If they had ,as certain statements by their companions suggest,then why dint they take any significant step against this?

In 1946 british tried,although that was too late,for eastablishing harmony between Hindus and Muslims by purposing a common central government having representatives of the both communities.It did happened but the collabration collapsed in the mistrust from both the sides, and then jinnah finally pushed for a seprate state for muslims PAKISTAN .Here few indian scolars held only jinnah responsible for the division.but what about the other side of the coin.?

There are certain questions.Why the collabration collapsed,though both knowing this will lead to disaster?

Was there some conflict about the political status in independent india or there was any other reasons?

But there might have been a alternate route which should have been taken and thus the biggest and the darkest part of history of india would have been avoided :-migration of 14 million people and death of a million odd people

But that might have hurt ego of few,so it wasn’t taken.few say it was due to the Jinnah,but as the few freedom fighters have quoted that jinnah was a secular nationalist and was badly differentiated during political reforms of india.He gave the statement” after we have divided then we can come togeather and cooperate.”On which maulana azad said"This is divorce before marriage". The above statement shows a bit different part of the character that is love for hindu-muslim unity. As a result of these efforts Pakistan came into being on 14th August, 1947.

Nehru and gandhi tell themselves as great idealist but ind end fail to grasp the biggest certanity. jinnah was a convinced secular nationalist, who only at very end took independent pakistan.Then the thing is Was the jinnah only responsible for the division or few others were too?

And if others were involved so why aren’t they also be detained from the modern indian history as jinnah is?

why do someone writing on their ideoligies is not banned but jinnah’s are?

This is not fair at all.Like someone has quoted”success has many fathers,but failure is orphan.”our leaders have blindly posed the blame of this division on jinnah.Was this a step taken by our beloved leaders in the desire of peace for country or political position in country?

if no one wants the division then why did it took place?

Near his end time jinnah made a statement”agreeing to the formation of pakistan as a different nation for muslims was the biggest mistake of my life”whom did he agreed to?aren’t those responsible?

It was Akshardham temple on september24,2002
then in Ayodhya on july5,2005.
The next at RSS headquarter in Nagpur on June2,2006 and leaving such minor incidents the next
major blow to India july26,2008 where it starts a series of bomb blasts longing few days.......
and now the Heart of India Mumbai "City of Dreams" on the evening of november26,2008.
It started around 9.30pm and lasted for almost 60 hours.A well planned attack with the aim ' Killing 5000 people and a quantity of weapons which are required to do such task'.It started at C.S.T terminal with open air firing with a very simple but dangerous aim to kill innocent people and divert police so that what they wanted to do should do it properly and they were able to do so. They entered and captured the Great Heritage of India The Taj Hotel,The Trident Oberoi Hotel and Nariman house , Which later proved out to be the camp of terrorists, for alost 60 hours.Although our armed forces did their work fascinatingly well and get rid of them using Police Force,Army and NSG Forces.They fought out well.Many of our daring oficers died but it doesnt went invain.
Atlast those 9 were killed and one was cought which is being interrogated by officials and guess what they found the same what every Indian almost knows that its stratergy was planned in Pakistan and most of them directly or indirectly are related to that country.All our good leaders gave very good speeches defining
"This will not be Tolerated and money will be given to dear ones of the officers died"
But why dont they realise what people actually want ,that is REVENGE nothing else.
Thousands Innocents have been killed in past with the damage of millions and this time again .It has been found that about 200 are killed and about 400 are hurt.If some appropriate step is not taken ,this will not stop and i guarentee you all this.We all are awake now but after some time it will blow off like candle light saying that this is system and we cannot change it..............
But if not we then who the hell is going to do that...
Everyone has same question"WHEN EILL THIS COME TO AN END"
And guess what NOBODY KNOWS THIS ANSWER....... WOW!!!!!
After series blast this discussion was at its peak that there should be some special fedral or force dealing with Terrorism only.But then it was left like anything because we live in a world in which everything is like a bubble of water.If it expands it do it like anything and when it bursts no sign is left.
We again start a new life forgetting all those discussions and then something like that again happens.We again start that reversible loop of discussions ,the end of which is already known to us.But we still do that because we have a bunch ofpeople ,leading us,and they know how to use us completely.......

What i know is it i better to be peace loving but foolish to be sitting and watching your people getting killed on the name of Peace.Who so ever is responsible for that should get punishment that they never thought of and set example for others that loving peace doesnt mean that you cannot fight and win................................
